Stairway Transformation

Home projects week 5!

Excited for the stairway transformation underway in my new townhouse…

Step I. Paint palazzo stripe walls for dramatic entryway that greets guests with a warm Welcome!

Step II. Replace black rod iron stair railing with lighter more modern cable rail system

Step III. Paint stairs all one color for continuity and a neutral foundation underneath the carpet runner

Step IV. Install stair runner for warmth and cozy comfort under our feet (esp the new puppy we’ll be bringing home in two weeks)

I’ll share all the steps here as they happen. So more pics to come soon!

Obsessed with Kitchens

Ever since moving into my house I’ve been fantasizing about remodeling the kitchen and transforming what is now a small efficiency space into a large indoor/outdoor kitchen and living room combo. The foundation is there and I see the vision, just need to get started on the project!

In the meantime, whenever I see a kitchen I love it gets saved to my “home aspirations board”, and this one from Amber Interiors is the latest one for the board!

The grey/blue cabinetry with gold accent hardware, mixed beautifully with a textured combination of wood and marble surfaces, create a sophisticated yet warm environment.

Then when you add this beautifully worn oriental rug and view windows over the sink, you have an inviting space I would never want to leave!

Inspired Entryways

The entryway to a home can be the most magical space in the house, greeting you and setting the tone for everything to come. This design from Burnham Design (who I just started following on Instagram) is so perfectly elegant and serene and inviting, I want to move in!

This design also demonstrates the power of a table and a bookshelf for telling a story. They serve as a blank canvas on which you can layer elements that take the space far beyond the ordinary. In this case the way the designer clusters the vases in an over-the-top way I like to call “chunking it up”, adding dimension, volume and color. Combined with the recessed bookshelves that she treats  almost as an art gallery with a beautiful, monochromatic  mix of prints, books and art objects. Genius!
